Intervention in Action

Intervention in Action

Schools may be closed and students may be learning remotely, but educators shouldn’t put intervention on hold. Now is the time to consider how you can empower intervention teams. Going above and beyond resources available in the classroom, a Title I team consisting of passionate and dedicated educators led the way to transform a district’s approach to intervention and instruction.

Hoover City Schools in Alabama wanted to streamline the intervention process for their RTI and Title I students. They chose Istation because it identifies learning gaps and provides engaging interactive lessons and face-to-face teaching strategies to get students back on track.

“After we started using Istation, students were going back into the general education classroom and were being successful, so we were able to serve additional students — more than we ever had in the past,” said Debra Walker Smith, director of federal programs and testing for the district.

Istation helped Hoover City Schools focus closely on the standards that students hadn’t mastered. Students using Istation from August to April saw significant improvements in Lexile scores: an average increase of 370 points in 1st grade, 280 in 2nd, 155 in 3rd, 165 in 4th, and 132 in 5th.

“I believe this program is one of the best investments we have made using our federal funds,” Smith said. “I like the ease of implementation, but more importantly, I like that students feel successful using it.”
